This talk presents studies of ultrafast laser spectroscopy of semiconductors and nanostructures, aiming to advance our understanding of, and consequently control, photoinduced charge carrier dynamics to further improve the performance in practical applications.

Artificial nanostructures have drawn significant attention in applications such as optoelectronic devices, photo-catalysts, and solar cells. Compared to bulk materials, nanostructures provide unique optical properties, which more importantly can be directly and easily tailored through changing size or shapes of the structures, during their synthesis procedures. Photoinduced charge carrier dynamics in the nanostructures play an important role in the photon conversion processes. However, in contrast to the fast development of nanostructure-based devices, the mechanisms of these processes are still being experimentally unravelled. In this talk, a range of ultrafast optical spectroscopy methods have been applied to investigate the carrier dynamics in diverse materials including semiconductor quantum dots, perovskite films and nanocrystals, with a focus on the electron transfer process.

This talk will show the great ability of ultrafast optical spectroscopy to reveal photoinduced processes. Results indicate ways for rational design of nanostructure-based devices. A greater understanding in underlying physics leads to better control of the performance of these nanosystems in potential practical applications.

Engaged in the application of ultrafast spectroscopy in the exploration of the basic mechanism of new materials. Research directions include the dynamics of carriers in semiconductor nanomaterials, the conduction of thermal electrons in metal nanostructures, and the coupling of light and matter. At the same time, research and independently build and develop ultra-fast spectroscopy and ultra-fine resolution microscopy equipment and technologies. Research interests cover but not limited to:

1. Use ultrafast spectroscopy and ultrafine microscopy to study hot carrier, exciton-phonon coupling phenomena;

2. Carrier diffusion, composite spectrum measurement, numerical simulation and simulation;

3. Research on new materials such as perovskite nanostructures;

4. Construction of ultra-fast spectroscopy and ultra-fine microscopy systems, etc.
